RV roof has a soft or spongy spot
What this usually means
A soft or spongy area means water has been present long enough to reach the decking beneath the membrane. That moves this out of sealant territory entirely — the substrate is compromised, it does not dry out on its own under a sealed roof, and it spreads. Resealing over it traps the water rather than solving anything.
Check this first
Stop walking on it. A roof with saturated decking will not reliably carry your weight regardless of what it was rated for when new, and the softness is telling you the structure has already been weakened.

What matters is that it does not improve on its own and it does spread, so the cost of waiting is real and compounds. An early soft spot is a much smaller job than the same one next season.
- Why can I not just seal over it?
- Because the water is already underneath. Sealing the top traps moisture against the decking with nowhere to go, which accelerates the rot rather than stopping it. It also hides the problem, so the next person to look finds a much larger area affected. The wet material has to come out.
