RV problem → technician-ready brief

Something on your RV stopped working. Start by describing it properly.

Most of what an RV owner pays a mobile technician for in the first hour is the conversation — working out what you actually saw, heard, and tried. We do that part first, for free, and hand you a written brief the technician can act on.

How this works

Four steps. None of them involve us guessing what is broken on your RV.

  1. 01

    Structured triage

We ask what you can see, hear, smell, and measure — never what you think the cause is.

  2. 02

    Safety gating first

Propane, smoke, shock, and CO answers stop the flow immediately and tell you what to do.

  3. 03

    A written service brief

Your observations, the standard check sequence, and an explicit list of what is still unknown. See what a brief contains.

  4. 04

    A mobile technician

Send the brief to a technician who covers your area — or copy it and send it yourself. Request a mobile RV technician.

What is failing?

Jump straight into triage for your system. Systems marked with a rule involve propane, 120V AC, or the coach’s weight — triage routes those to a technician rather than walking you through a self-check.

Every claim on this site is labelled

RV advice online is a wall of unattributed assertion, and following the wrong one costs a part, a weekend, or a fire. So we tier every technical statement, and where we do not have a source, we say so instead of filling the gap.

Verified manufacturer fact
Stated in a manufacturer service manual, owner’s manual, service bulletin, or recall notice.
Industry consensus
Standard practice across the RV service trade. Not specific to one manufacturer or model.
Professional judgment
A reasoned inference drawn from the evidence above. An informed opinion, not an established fact.
Owner-reported symptom
What RV owners report experiencing. Useful signal for a technician — not a diagnosis.

Where we are today

Before you start

The things owners reasonably want to know first — including the ones where the honest answer is currently unhelpful. If something here is unclear, tell us.

Does RV Repair IQ tell me what is wrong with my RV?
No, and we will not pretend to. Structured triage collects what you can observe and narrows the problem; it does not establish a cause. Anyone who tells you what is broken on your RV without seeing it is guessing, and on a propane appliance or a 120V fault, guessing is how people get hurt. A technician diagnoses. We make sure they start with good information.
How much does it cost?
Triage and the service brief are free to RV owners, and the brief is yours to keep and use however you like. We do not charge owners and we do not sell your details to lead brokers. The intended business model is a subscription paid by independent mobile RV technicians for an exclusive territory.
What happens after I request a mobile RV technician?
Your request reaches a real person, along with your service brief if you ran triage. You get a straight answer about whether we have anyone covering your area. We have no technician signed to a territory yet, so today that answer is often no — in which case take your brief to a technician you already trust, because it works just as well in their hands as in ours.
Do you cover my area?
Almost certainly not yet. Zero technicians have been signed to a territory, and we would rather say that on the homepage than after you fill in a form. The triage and the brief are useful regardless of coverage, because they are designed to be handed to any technician.
Can I use the service brief with my own technician?
Yes, and that is the point of it. The brief is a plain document containing your observations, the safety and urgency call with its reasoning, the standard check sequence, and an explicit list of what is still unknown. Copy it and send it to whoever you like. Nothing in it depends on us being involved.
Will you tell me what my RV error code means?
Only when we hold the manufacturer’s own fault table for that code. The lookup always tells you which system the code belongs to and where to read it off the unit, and it carries the code verbatim into your brief. Where we do not have the source, we say so instead of repeating a meaning copied between websites until it looks like consensus.

Ten minutes now saves an hour of diagnostic labour.

Triage is free, takes about five minutes, and the brief is yours to use however you like.
